Why remove phosphates from my pool water?

The answer to this simple question is algae!

What is algae? Algae is a plant that grows underwater just like plants or weeds that grow in soil. Algae has a lot in common with plants that grow above ground. They need nutrients to grow, so does algae.

Everyone is familiar with a well fertilized lawn that has weeds. The weeds get big and strong when the lawn is well fertilized, and it’s hard to kill them. It’s the same in a pool. If you get an algae bloom and the algae is supported by lots of nutrients, it’s a really big mess and hard to get rid of.
